Founded in 1912 as the Colored Trainmen of America, the union reorganized in 1918 as the Associated Colored Trainmen of America, and again in 1936 as the Association of Colored Railway Trainmen and Locomotive Firemen. Organized in 1899, the Brotherhood of Railway and Steamship Clerks, Freight Handlers, Express and Station Employes (BRAC) was renamed the Transportation Communications International Union in 1987.
